Golf to adopt IPL structure for Louise Philippe Cup

December 3rd, 2011

The IPL (Indian Premier League) structure is coming to golf. Appear in March 2012, Bangalore’s Karnataka Golf Association will play host to the Louise Philippe Cup – a tournament which was announced few days back by the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI).

In all, eight teams, each comprising of the three leading specialist golfers from each city/region – Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Gurgaon, Lucknow and Chandigarh – are going to be participating in the $ 250,000 prize money competition. From the three members, two will be selected based on the PGTI 2011 final position as of end December and the 3rd participant will be a team choice.

Cities and the regions around them which don’t have players in the PGTI’s Order of merit of qualified golfers may import a gamer from other cities/regions. This may give the teams an alternative to pick India golfers that cannot sustain their PGTI rankings since they play primarily overseas.

Among the players who have affirmed their engagement consist of Bangalore’s Asian Tour Winner Anirban Lahiri, Jyoti Randhawa, Himmat Rai, and SSP Chowrasia.
