The ‘Crisis Manager’ VVS Laxman at Crisis in IPL
Posted on February 29th, 2012On the Saturday’s IPL 5th season auction, VVS Laxman was amongst the first few names which were announced for the IPL franchises to bid. None of the franchises were willing to shell out $400,000 for VVS Laxman, and he was not bought at the auction for this season of IPL.
Laxman has never succeeded in impressing the franchises in his performance during the IPL tournaments, nor has the performed up to the mark lately. He did get the opportunity to prove his capabilities in the opening season of IPL where he was elected as the captain of the Deccan Chargers, but he failed there too.
In the IPL 4 auction last year, VVS Laxman had his base price lowered to $30,000 from $40,000 because of which he was bought by the Kochi Tuskers Kerala. It has not come out as a big surprise to the cricketing world that a player like Laxman was not bought at the IPL auction because of his poor form during the Australian series lately. Laxman is not the best when it comes to limited over games where a player needs to be aggressive in his approach, and not defensive, thus not being selected for the 5th season of IPL.
The question here is why VVS Laxman is so keen on being a part of the IPL team. If he wishes to prove that he still is a capable player in the shorter version of the game, he can still take part in the one-day internationals.
The IPL franchises could use VVS Laxman in the other seasons of the IPL to have him as a mentor in their team to lead the youngsters rather than being the pitch-hitter. Laxman needs to concentrate on other forms of the game and bring his lost form back. He needs to concentrate on his career as a batsman rather than thinking about being a part of the IPL season.
