IPL 2008
The IPL 2008 was the first and introductory season of the Indian Premier League inIndia, established by BCCI. The IPL 2008 commenced from April 18, 2008 and closed with its last match on the June 1 of that year. The IPL 2008 comprised of 8 teams where each of them were scheduled to play one home match & one away game against each other. The different venues for IPL 2008 were spread across all the major Indian cities such as Kolkata, Mumbai, Mohali, Chennai,Bangalore, Navi Mumbai,Delhi,Hyderabadand Jaipur. The teams involved in the 2008 season were, Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Deccan Chargers, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab, Bangalore Royal Challengers and Mumbai Indians. The T20 cricket tournament was based on Knockout and Dual Round Robin tournament formats.
The teams were a mix and match of Indian and International players where each of the players was selected through an auction held in January that year. It’s to inform that M.S. Dhoni was the player to achieve the highest bidding of 1.5 million USD. The final was between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals where the latter emerged as the winner. Shane Warne was the Captain of the winning team and Yusuf Pathan was “Man-of-the-Match”. Shane Watson was declared as the “Man-of-the Tournament”, Sohail Tanvir was acknowledged as the wicket-hunting bowler and awarded with the “Purple cap” while Shaun Marsh was the highest run-scorer for the tournament and was recognized with the “Orange cap”. Shreevats Goswami received the award of best under-nineteen player and Chennai Super Kings was acknowledged highly for their “Fair Play”.
