Pune Warriors

Pune Warriors India, the IPL franchise owned by Sahara group’s Subroto Roy Sahara, is among the nine teams which will be participating in the sixth Indian Premier League. The team would be keen to prove true to their talent since last outings have not been par excellence for them. This reflects in some tough decisions which the team authorities have taken before going for the February 3 player auctions for IPL 6.

New Zealand all rounder Jesse Ryder, who hasn’t played any competitive tournaments after the IPL along with his teammate Nathan McCullum, Australian James Hopes, South African captain Graeme Smith; along with Tamim Iqbal, Steve Smith and Callum Ferguson have not been retained by Pune Warriors India. Even though Australian captain made unprecedented record of crossing the double century mark 4 times in a calendar year in test cricket, he has also been put back in the auction pool by the Pune team, mainly because of uncertainty over his availability. However, Pune Warriors have done nothing short of a miracle by retaining as many as 24 players in their team squad, second highest among the 9 teams, and also saving around 3.9 million US Dollars in their money bag for the auctions.

Of the 24 players, 6 are overseas while 18 are Indian contributors. Angelo Mathews, Marlon Samuels, Alfonso Thomas, Mitchell Marsh, Luke Wright and Wayne Parnell are the overseas players who can be seen donning the Pune Warriors India jersey once again. The retained Indian players are Yuvraj Singh, Robin Uthappa, Rahul Sharma, Murali Kartik, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ashok Dinda, Ashish Nehra, Manish Pandey, Ali Murtuza, Anustup Majumdar, Dheeraj Jadhav, Eklavya Dwivedi, Harpreet Singh, Krishnakant Upadhyay, Mahesh Rawat, Mithun Manhas, Raiphi Gomez and Shrikant Wagh. Yuvraj Singh is expected to lead the Pune side for their IPL 6 outing.

In the ipl auction held at Chennai, Pune Warriors purchased 4 players.
